Established: January 1, 2019

This project conducts sociotechnical research on the impacts of digital and communications technologies on various aspects of Indian society.  Our work examines the ways in which society and communications are changing with access to technology, particularly social media. Researchers associated with this work include Joyojeet Pal, Monojit Choudhury, Kalika Bali, Amit Sharma and several talented research fellows and interns.

Our recent work has included research into misinformation, the gig economy in India, online aspects of spiritual practices, memes in public life, polarization, and political speech on social media. See the Publications tab for more.
